Psalm 71, 25 Aug 19

We have been rejoicing in the recent birth of a baby girl called Mica in Berlin, not a direct relative but whose parents are known and dear to us and to our family. The wonder of new life in all its variations and energy and pain resonates in the early verses of Psalm 71: “You have sustained me from my birth.”

There’s a lot more to the psalm, as usual. However, the refrain we are singing this week is apposite. Our male voice group will reprise a home-grown TTBB arrangement of a Slavonian Orthodox chant for the Beatitudes. Verse 6 provides the antiphon:

My praise shall always be of you.

A more extensive commentary may be found on a post on this psalm earlier this year.
